Morgan Freeman, 71, is in serious condition after getting in a car accident in Mississippi late last night.
According to reports, Freeman's 1997 Nissan Maxima (?!) was heading eastbound on Mississippi Highway 32--at around 11:30 p.m.-- when the car went off the edge of the road and overturned several times before coming to a stop.
Once emergency crews – using the jaws of life – removed Freeman and his passenger--Demaris Meyer-- both were airlifted from the accident scene to the Regional Medical Center at Memphis, where a spokesperson says Freeman is currently in serious condition.
He/she did not expatiate further.
But according to eyewitness Clay McFerrin, who is the editor and publisher of The Charleston Sun-Sentinel, when Freeman was removed from he car, "he was conscious, coherent, talking." And "he even seemed to have a sense of humor."
The accident is under investigation and no cause has been determined, but no alcohol or drugs were involved, according to police. [People]

Update: Freeman is going to be okay. "He has a broken arm, broken elbow and minor shoulder damage but he is in good spirits," his rep, Donna Lee, says. "He is going to have surgery this afternoon or tomorrow to correct the damage. He says he'll be okay and is looking forward to a full recovery."[People]
